How to Host a Vintage Tea Party in Houston

Congratulations! You’ve decided to host your own Vintage Tea Party!

What a special way to celebrate a bridesmaid’s brunch for your cousin, or a gender reveal party for your brother and his wife, or even a simple tea party with your college roommate who just popped into town.

But now that the decision is made, the anxiety begins to set in, “How do I find all the things I need?” "What if I forget something?”  “I’ve never done this before…Help!”

Relax, at The China Teacup Rentals we are here to ease you through the process of planning out your Tea Party Event in Houston with style and grace.  Whether this is your first time as a hostess or your two-hundredth, you will find a wealth of knowledge here at your fingertips.

Here’s how to plan a tea party your guests will never forget!

1. Choose Your Tea Party Theme

Whether you're envisioning an Alice in Wonderland-inspired garden party or a traditional English tea, your theme will guide your decor, colors, and tableware. Popular themes we’ve helped bring to life include:

  • Mother's Day Garden Tea Party
  • Children's Mad Hatter Tea Party
  • Vintage Southern Bridal Brunch
  • Downton Abbey-Inspired Luncheon
  • Pink Roses Baby Shower Tea Party

Once you decide on your theme, then it's time to start gathering your decor!

2. Pick the Perfect Houston Venue

Choosing a venue is not as hard as you might think.  Sometimes, reimaging a space that you currently have is the perfect solution.  Go ahead and move that couch out of the way and bring in another table!  You might be surprised at just how user friendly your own living room is - especially if you are planning your Tea Party Event on a tight budget.

However, if you decide to host your Tea Party elsewhere, Houston has so many beautiful places that are simply perfect for tea parties. Some of our favorites include:

  • Your backyard or garden (especially in spring or fall!)
  • Local event venues with patios or courtyards
  • Community clubhouses
  • Airbnb rentals with charming dining areas
  • Local parks

If you're not sure where to host, we’re happy to help you narrow it down!

3. Serve a Classic Tea Party Menu

Next, it's time to plan out your menu.   Your Tea Party menu can be as simple or as ornate as you wish.   A cookie and a cup of tea each is the perfect combination if you are celebrating with a friend.  However, if you have a larger event, usually 3 courses are preferred starting with a savory option, finishing with a sweet option, and adding a scone or other biscuit option in between.

  • First Course Options: Mini quiches and finger sandwiches
  • Second Course: Scones with clotted cream and jam
  • Third Course Options: Petit fours, macarons, and fruit tarts, cookies

In addition, you may wish to add a salad course or even add a full meal to your party.

Offering a variety of tea choices to your guests is paramount since so many tea preferences vary. We find that Tea Sachets offer an upscale option to a simple tea bag.  You might also consider adding water, champagne, or other beverages to your menu.

Deciding what you wish to serve to your guests will determine what serving items you will need.

Don't forget to include milk, lemon, honey, and sugar for a proper tea experience!

4. Select Your Vintage Table Settings

At The China Teacup Rentals, we offer curated collections that are tailored to every vision - from our ever popular Romantic Roses Collection to our classic Ivory Indulgence.  We have a little bit of something for everyone on your guest list!  A beautiful tablescape decorated with delicate China Teacups & Saucers will provide the perfect setting to your Tea Party Event.  A good rule of thumb is that one teapot can be used for up to four guests.

Items to consider for your Tea Party Event:

Our Tea Party Packages and Ladies Luncheon packages make it easy to plan for groups of any size—from 2 to 100 guests.

5. Add Elegant Finishing Touches

Once your menu is set, and you have all of your elegant china & crystal pieces sorted, your next step is to enhance the look and feel of your Tea Party.  By choosing a color theme from the china you chose, your look will become more cohesive.  Adding textures and softness will also add to the ambiance of your event.

Consider these decorative items for adding to the overall aesthetic

  • Fresh flowers in teapots or crystal vases as centerpieces
  • Soft background music
  • Personalized name cards
  • Mini menus
  • Linen napkins
  • Table runner
  • Votive Candles

We also offer event styling and table setup to make the process effortless.
